31 01 2011

The 2011 racing season kicked off this past weekend with the Rolex24 at Daytona Speedway! The Rolex24 is the most challenging and longest race of them all and drivers from NASCAR, INDY, All the other  racing series like to race it!

The Rolex series has 2 classes!

Daytona Prototype (DP)

Grand Touring (GT)

The green droped at 3:30 est. on Saturday and checker flag fell at 3:30 est. on  Sunday! Speedtv covered 14 hours of the race from 3pm till 10pm Saturday then on Sunday 9am till 4pm! I watched all but 2 hours of it and when it wasnt on TV still followed the leaderboard online!

This year’s race was a good one! The weather was good with no rain although in the early morning hours on Sunday there was a 2 hour long yellow flag for heavey fog! The yellow flag fell for 23 times throughout the race!  The good thing was that there were no major crashes! Pit stop happened at every hour and then most teams changed drivers some teams went 2-3 hours at times before changing! At one point or another about every car in the race had some type of trouble along the way so there was no telling who was gonna win the race!

When the checkers fell it was Chip Ganassi’s 01 car with drivers Scott Pruett, Joey Hand, Graham Rahal & Memo Rojas taking the win in DP class and overall! Finishing 2nd was Chip Ganassi’s 02 car with drivers Jamie McMurray, Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti & Juan Pablo Montoya! In the GT class the winner was 67 car with drivers Andy Lally, Brendan Gaughan, Steven Bertheau, Wolf Henzler, & Spencer Pumpelly! Congrats to the winners!!
