Kevin Harvick is asking his fans to help him locate a Soldier from Fort Bragg for him! Lets help him try to find this Hero! You can contact Kevin by Facebook at His website at and on Twitter @KevinHarvick, His wife Delana @DelanaHarvick   Here is the info he posted!

Okay Fort Bragg followers, we need your help. A few weeks ago when DeLana and I were in Ft. Bragg, we came in contact with a solider as we were leaving the Soldier & Family Assistance Center.

He told us that he and his friend were huge Kevin Harvick fans. Soon after watching the Daytona 500, he and his friend were out on patrol, in Afghanistan I believe, and his friend was killed. He gave me a pin from his friend’s uniform. Before we could process what had just happened, between the tears, soldier was gone.

We never got his name…

We’ve been working with the folks from Ft. Bragg since that day with no luck. It would mean so much to us if anyone has any information about this particular solider we met in Ft. Bragg and how we might be able to contact him.

We’ve got something we want to get to the soldier and are hoping we can get the word out via social media. There are no pictures, video, etc of our meeting… so we are asking for any help in this matter!

Remembering Charleston 9

18 06 2013

Six years today June 17th 2007 9 Firefighters lost their lives in Charleston, SC at a Sofa store. That day was the worse in the fire service history sense 9-11-01.  Lost were Captain Louis Mulkey, Captain Mike Benke, FF Melvin Champaign, Captain Billy Hutchingson, Engineer Brad Baity, FF Earl Drayton, Engineer Mark Kelsey, Engineer Michael French, and FF Brandon Thompson.

Charleston along with mutual aid companies responded to a fire at a furniture store. The fire was reported on the loading dock. Firefighters went in to attack the fire to stop it before it hit the main showroom of the buliding. Once inside the firefighter received a report of someone trapped inside. They began to search for the trapped person then the fire started to spread fast. The firefighters lost their way out and never make it out of the building.

Alot of things went wrong that day and could possibly been preventable. Today Fire Depts all across the country train and learn from this fire by going over the fire reports and listening to the auto of the fireground operations. Hopefully we will learn from this tragedy so it never happens again.

28 05 2013

Memorial weekend many hit the road to someplace, have wild parties or just hang out with family and friends with a BBQ. What ever you did this Memorial day weekend I hope you too some time to remember & reflect on what Memorial Day is all about.

On Memorial Day Towns and Cities all across this great Country from Coast to Coast have parade and Services to Honor and pay respect to our Hero Veterans that gave their lives and those Heros that are currently Serving to keep us all Free!

This Memorial Day i decided to go to Endicott to watch the parade instead of being in one then went to the Memorial Service at Endicott Veteran’s Memorial Park for the first time ever! They put on an Awesome Memorial Service Honoring and paying respect to those Heros! The weather was perfect and the turnout was the largest ever they said! The Park itself is a beautiful nicely done Memorial for our local Heros!

Just Birding along

13 05 2013

Its been a while sense my last blog! I been busy focusing on Birding & getting the things i need to help me see and ID birds like binoculars & a Birding Field guide. I picked up ‘Stokes Field Guide to Birds Eastern Region’ at Barns & Noble. Its a great guide and already i was able to ID 2 birds from it!  Thanks to Melissa for recriminating it to me!

Either im at a local park or just down at the creek I been seeing and hearing more than i can get a shot at! Now that May is here the Summer birds are starting to slowly come around! The one bird i want to see, hear and get shots of most is my Lifer & favorite Baltimore Oriole! Cant wait to catch him! Warblers are driving me nuts to catch as they are small, fast & high! Its really hard to get a shot of them and there is sooo many types of them too!  I have caught a Pileated Woodpecker, I love his red spiky hair!  Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Chipping Sparrow, & a Catbird! Catbirds are cool they sound like a cat MEOW!

HOPEFULLY I’ll catch more new birds & that ORIOLE soon!

Birding is Awesome!

12 04 2013

Scene my last Birding blog i found out that Birding is very fun, Awesome & Addicting hobby! A HUGE THANKS To my friend & neighbor Melissa for getting me into Birding! Just within the last few weeks  Melissa has showed & tough me alot about birding & its only gonna get funner and better!

Birding is a awesome way to get motivated to get out and get some good exercise by walking/hiking the trails in the woods and the creek! We have an awesome creek for that! I been going down there every morning everyday this week for anywhere between 1/2 hour to 2 hours! If the weather and birding is good i could stay down there all day! There is a huge hill behind Melissa’s house that im tempting to climb!

Untill this passed Wednesday I never seen so many ducks before! WOW Holy DUCKS! There had to be a least 100 different Ducks & Birds at the river! There is this thing they call FallOut and the cause of that is when you have a thunderstorm and the birds flying place to place just drop down untill its good for them to fly again! We got the river and i couldnt believe how many where! They were all on the far side from us so it hard to take picts you need a scope or binoculars to see them good! They were pretty cool! Thursday morning we went back to the river on the side all the ducks were hoping to see them but they all left except a few in a nearby pond! That was so cool! A Bold Eagle live in that area too but didnt see it, Hopefully soon I will catch it! Never seen a Bold Eagle in the wild!

Already i have seen or heard 48 Species of Birds! Canada Goose, Mallard,  Blue-winged Teal,  Greater Scaup,  Long-tailed Duck,  Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Common Merganser,  Ruffed Grouse,  Common Loon, Pied-billed Grebe,  Horned Grebe,  Double-crested Cormorant,  Great Blue Heron,  Red-tailed Hawk,  Killdeer,  Bonaparte’s Gull,  Caspian Tern, Mourning Dove,  Belted Kingfisher,  Red-bellied Woodpecker,  Downy Woodpecker,  Hairy Woodpecker,  Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker,  Eastern Phoebe, Blue Jay,  American Crow,  Tree Swallow,  Black-capped Chickadee,  Tufted Titmouse,  Brown Creeper,  Carolina Wren,  Golden-crowned Kinglet,  American Robin,  European Starling,  Song Sparrow,  Dark-eyed Junco,  Northern Cardinal,  Red-winged Blackbird,  Common Grackle,  Common Redpoll,  Pine Siskin,  American Goldfinch   Fox Sparrow,  Turkey Vulture,  White-breasted Nuthatch

Thats ALOT of Birds already Haha!

A Male Northern Cardinal! I love listening to these guys! So far the Cardinal is the only bird i can tell by sound right off!

A Male Downy Woodpecker! A Male has red on him the Females dont!

A Red-Tailed Hawk being chased by a Crow in the neighborhood!

From the river Wednesday! Got to tank Melissa for taking this from her scope!  Horned Grebes up front, one Bufflehead in the back!

From the river Wednesday! Thanks to Melissa for taking this shot of the  The Long-tailed Ducks from her scope!

7 04 2013

Very sad day in the fire service. In just over 2 months after we lost Owego Fire Cap Matt Porcari we face another tragedy.  Binghamton Firefighter John M. Janos passed away while on duty at Quint 21-3. FF Janos had 24 1/2 years service with the BFD. Tonight Philadelphia Firefighter Capt. Mike Goodwin was killed while fighting a 3 alarm fire.

Rest easy Brothers Your job is done here and we’ll take it from here please watch over us as we answer the calls.

Bird is the word

27 03 2013

I had been inspired and motivate into Nature and Birds from my neighbor Melissa! Melissa is huge into birds and takes awesome photos of them! See for your self at her facebook page!

This passed Saturday I had the chance to go with Melissa on a Nature hike at Binghamton University Nature Preserve! It was a great time despite the cold snowy weather and icy trails! Saw a few birds and heard many birds singing. The Canadian Gesse were the only ones i could get good shots of from my camera!  Its a pretty nice relaxful atmosphere out there in the woods! Its also a good workout hiking out there too! I need to get out there more often!

Heres what we saw & heard out there!

This is what we saw:
Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Black-capped Chickadee (singing too), Red-winged Blackbirds (singing), Song Sparrows (singing), Fox Sparrows (the one we tried very hard to get good looks of because they are only around for a couple of weeks), Turkey Vultures flying, American Crows, American Robins, Northern Cardinals

This is what we heard only:
Tufted Titmouse, Pileated Woodpecker, Blue Jay

Im just getting started into this new hobby! There is so many birds to learn about! I always loved the big guys like the Eagles & Hawks as a matter of fact you can watch a live wed cam of the Red-Tailed Hawks from Cornell College here  My favorite small bird is the Baltimore Oriole! I cant wait till they come around and get some good shots of them! They come around here in mid Spring i believe in May!

My mom has a nice birdfeeder setup she had for years but i never payed any attention or cared for it but that has now changed thanks to Melissa! I gonna start paying more attention to wildlife down at the creek!

Heres a few shots i took at BU Saturday

There are Mallard Ducks

These are Canada Geese

My favorite shot! A Canada Geese in flight

Do you have a smoke alarm? Does your smoke alarm work? If you answered No then WHY THE HELL NOT??  SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES PERIOD!! IF you dont have one PLEASE get one especially if you have Children!! Smoke alarms CAN & WILL SAVE  you and your family!!  IF you have Children PLEASE teach them and practice fire drills so they know what to do in case of a fire. Fires take no holidays or time outs! They CAN happen at ANY time, Day, Night, Year! You NEVER know!

IF you need a smoke alarm you can pretty much get them at any store if you cant get one at the store PLEASE call your local Fire Dept NON-EMERGENCY and ask for one. Most Fire Depts give them out and will install them for you. WE WANT YOU and your FAMILY SAFE!!

Heres some proof that WORKING Smoke alarms WORK! This is a melted smoke alarm. This Alarm SAVED ME and also SAVED my friend’s house!  This alarm was on the 2nd floor of the home as i was down on the first floor, It went off I saw the fire got out called the fire dept and they got there fast enough to SAVE my friend’s home! Had this alarm had NOT been working i may not be here telling you this right now! Trust me on this as a Firefighter i have been on both sides of the fence!

Here is a tragic fire that happened Saturday in Kentucky. These tragic fires happen way to often  although we cant stop fires from happening WE CAN STOP the tragedies by getting WORKING SMOKE ALARMS and teaching our children fire safety!!
